Claire Garland:
A Compassionate Guide to Your Well-being

As a licensed mental health professional since 2008, I am dedicated to supporting people who are navigating a crisis of life, whether that is a sudden change to identity, a chronic condition, or another transition that is shaking the ground beneath.

My approach is rooted in empathy and resilience, helping you find a fulfilling life and fostering peace and strength. Together, we explore with curiosity your unique challenges and re-orient yourself in body, mind, spirit and community.

As a person diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes as an adult, I bring my lived experience of managing a chronic condition. I understand the mental load and energy it takes every single day. I am walking beside you in learning to care-take the body, feed the soul, and live well.

Orientation

My work is rooted in somatic, mindfulness, and strengths-based approaches.

Somatic therapy, also known as body-oriented therapy, is a holistic therapeutic approach that integrates your mind, body, emotions, and spirit in the healing process. The idea is simple but powerful: Our thoughts, feelings, and experiences are deeply connected to how we feel physically. Somatic therapy is all about how your body, mind and emotions are connected. It helps you understand how things like stress, fear or sadness can show up in your body as sensations, like tension or pain.

Mindfulness is foundational to my work. Mindfulness brings a gentle and nonjudgemental awareness of the present moment. Using mindfulness as a tool looks like noticing thoughts, emotions, sensations, and impulses as they come up. Together, we help you learn practices to center and ground yourself, especially when things feel overwhelming.

I believe that even in your toughest moments, you already have incredible strengths and resilience within you. A strengths-based approach shifts the focus from “what’s wrong” to “what’s strong.” We’ll work together to rediscover the tools, values, and inner wisdom you’ve used to navigate life so far. You are not broken. We’ll honor what resilience has gotten you through and build on that foundation.
